The primary operational constraints are therefore expected to be airport slot availability, overnight parking capacity, mandatory handling coordination and post-race ground congestion. Fuel availability itself is not expected to be the limiting factor, although uplift delays are possible during peak ramp activity.

Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport (LEMD)
LEMD is approximately eight miles northeast of central Madrid and immediately adjacent to the MADRING circuit around IFEMA Madrid.
Normal drive time to central Madrid is approximately 20-30 minutes. The circuit can be reached in about five minutes under normal traffic conditions, although Grand Prix traffic, security measures and road restrictions may substantially increase transfer times.
LEMD is an airport of entry operating 24 hours, with 24-hour customs and immigration, fueling, handling and security. Multiple general aviation handling providers are available.
Airport slots and advance handling arrangements are required.
Parking and GSE
Aircraft parking is available at LEMD, but space may tighten substantially during Grand Prix weekend.
Operators should submit parking requirements early and avoid assuming that an allocated arrival slot also guarantees parking for the duration of the stay.
Construction is also expanding remote parking capacity during 2026.
Ground support equipment and handling are available 24/7 through multiple ramp and GA handling providers. Deicing and fueling support are also available.

LEMD offers Jet A-1 fueling 24/7, and fuel availability itself is not expected to be a significant constraint.
The bigger concern during the Grand Prix is timing. High ramp activity can create service delays even when fuel supply is readily available.
For a time-sensitive post-race departure, fueling well before passenger arrival can remove one potential source of delay from the departure sequence.
Hotels and crew accommodations
Madrid has extensive hotel capacity, but convenient crew accommodations should still be booked early for Grand Prix weekend.
Demand is expected to be particularly concentrated around IFEMA Madrid and the airport area. Crews prioritizing proximity to LEMD should avoid assuming normal hotel availability or pricing close to the event.
CIQ clearance and entry requirements
International business aviation passengers and crew can clear customs and immigration at LEMD, with business aviation clearance normally handled through the Executive Terminal rather than onboard the aircraft.
Spain is part of the Schengen Area.
U.S. citizens traveling for short stays generally do not require a visa for stays of up to 90 days in a 180-day period.

What causes missions to delay?
Grand Prix missions are most vulnerable when several relatively minor delays begin to compound.
A passenger leaving the circuit late may encounter heavier-than-expected traffic returning to LEMD. That delay can put the aircraft outside its allocated departure slot. If fueling or another ramp service is still outstanding, the aircraft may then require both service completion and a new slot before it can depart.
“The airport may be right next to the circuit, but operators shouldn’t build the departure around a normal five-minute transfer,” Barona said. “If passengers are delayed leaving the race and the aircraft misses its allocated slot, what started as a ground transportation problem can quickly become an aviation problem.”
For example, passengers leave MADRING later than planned and encounter heavy post-race traffic. By the time they reach LEMD, the aircraft has missed its allocated departure slot and the crew is still waiting for a fuel truck.
What began as a 30-minute ground delay can become a significantly longer aviation delay if a new departure slot must be obtained.
Contingency planning
Operators should build flexibility into parking, slots, fueling, crew accommodations and ground transportation before the aircraft arrives in Madrid.
If overnight parking at LEMD cannot be accommodated, the aircraft may need to drop passengers and reposition to a preselected alternate.
