Effective April 10, 2025, Brazil’s visa exemption for U.S., Canadian, and Australian nationals officially ends. This change affects tourists and has important implications for business aviation operators and their crew.

Visa Requirements for Crew Members

General Aviation (GA) Crew – May Still Qualify for Exemption

Crew members operating GA flights may remain exempt from visa requirementsregardless of nationality—if all the following conditions are met:

  • They are on duty

  • Listed on the GENDEC

  • In uniform upon arrival

  • Hold a valid passport, license, and/or professional certificates issued by a Civil Aviation Authority

⚠️ Important: This exemption does not apply to crew members who arrive on commercial flights to join a GA flight.

Crew Arriving on Commercial Flights – Visa Required

Crew flying into Brazil on commercial airlines—for example, to reposition or join a departing GA flight—must hold a visa. This requirement has been in effect since July 10, 2024.

This includes:

  • Flight attendants

  • Flight engineers

  • Mechanics

Even if they’re listed on the GENDEC, entry is not guaranteed under the exemption. These crew members should obtain an e-visa in advance to avoid delays or denial of entry.

Visa Requirements for Tourists

As of April 10, 2025, U.S., Canadian, and Australian tourists must also apply for a visa before entering Brazil.

E-visa details:

  • Apply via: https://brazil.vfsevisa.com

  • Submit at least 15 days before travel

  • Processing time: ~5 business days

  • Cost: $80.90

  • Valid for up to 10 years with multiple entries

Key Takeaways for Operators

  • GA crew may still enter visa-free—but only if flying the aircraft into Brazil and meeting all exemption conditions.

  • All other crew, especially those arriving commercially, must obtain an e-visa.

  • Visa cannot be obtained upon arrival.

  • Operators should ensure flight attendants and mechanics have proper documentation.

  • Plan ahead to prevent immigration issues and operational delays.
